January 15, 2009- "Panel Discussion on Employee Volunteering"
Panel members from Wells Fargo, Nationwide, and Principal Financial Group's volunteer programs will have an open discussion with DOVIA members on the opportunities and challenges facing volunteering in the workplace. Discussion will be faciliated by United Way of Central Iowa's Volunteer Engagement Director, Shirley Burgess.
January 19, 2009- "MLK Day of Service"
The 14th annual MLK Day of Service was created to remember MLK Jr.'s legacy of service. To learn more on how your organization can participate by registering a volunteer project, visit www.mlkday.gov. For questions on creating a local project in Des Moines contact Rachel Manuel.
February 19, 2009- "VolunteerLocal"
Brian Hemesath with VolunteerLocal will present on how local organizations can use their program VolunteerLocal to assist in managing volunteers.
VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT TRAINING
Each Fall and Spring, a Volunteer Management Training Series is offered by DMACC. This certification includes 6 core classes on topics such as recruiting, orientation and training, supervising and evaluating volunteers, along with the requirement of 30 hours of elective courses which will lead to a Certification in Volunteer Management.
